A public holiday may be declared on July 7 for Muharram, pending moon sighting. Schools, banks, and offices are awaiting official confirmation
With the sacred Islamic month of Muharram approaching, there is growing anticipation across India regarding the declaration of a public holiday on Monday, July 7.

Although Muharram is initially set to be observed on Sunday, July 6, the date could shift to the following day depending on the sighting of the crescent moon, as is customary in the Islamic lunar calendar.

Muharram marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year and holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims worldwide. In India, such religious observances often result in public holidays, allowing communities to commemorate the occasion.

In this context, it is expected that an official announcement will soon confirm whether Monday, July 7 will be a nationwide public holiday.

The uncertainty has prompted schools, government offices, banks, and private institutions to remain on standby.

Parents are advised to keep an eye on school circulars, and individuals planning banking or administrative errands should make arrangements in advance.
